Al Bastakiya Art Fair Dubai (15-21 March 2010) |
Location : Bastakiya District
BAF is now in its fourth year and is organised annually by XVA Gallery. BAF was created by Mona Hauser, owner of XVA, and renamed from the Creek Art Fair in 2009. BAF is Dubai’s only fringe art fair, focusing on promoting emerging Middle Eastern contemporary art. BAF is timed to run parallel to Art Dubai (17-20 March 2010).
BAF takes place in Bastakiya, providing a wider celebration of the arts in Dubai’s unique heritage area. BAF is under the patronage of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (DCAA), also located in Bastakiya. BAF opens sixteen traditional houses within Bastakiya to the public. Involving twenty three local, regional and internationally-based participants, BAF includes exhibitions by individual participants, galleries and Internationally-acclaimed curators. The programme of events includes daily exhibitions, movie screenings, book readings, performance art and a series of brunch talks curated by Rose Issa. |

UAE Desert Challenge (27 March - 1 April, 2010) |
Location : Dubai
The rally celebrates 20 editions in 2010. Run every year since its “birth” in 1991, the rally has grown to become a firm favourite with the cross country fraternity and is the only event that has maintained its Cross Country FIA Cup & FIM Championship status without missing a single year.
The event will be based, once again, in Abu Dhabi, following the very successful change of base location for the 2009 edition.
Entry fees remain as 2009 and are very reasonable and extremely good value. The only cost that the competitor incurs above the entry fee, is accommodation before and after the event, transport of vehicle to Abu Dhabi and air travel for the overseas competitor. |

Reminiscent of the traditional motifs of Persian tapestries, architecture, fabrics, and carvings, Ramin Haerizadeh’s work reconfigures the decadence of an ancient civilisation into lusciously futuristic tableaux. Printed as large photographs, his computer manipulated imagery conveys all the sumptuous associations of history within their super-slick modern surfaces. Using these appropriated forms as departure point for invention, Haerizadeh transforms tradition, myth, and legend into the realm of virtual reality, subverting convention through high-impact graphic design and digital modelling.
